The island of Ibiza is located in the Mediterranean Sea and is in close proximity to mainland Spain. There are, therefore, plenty of opportunities to reach Ibiza by ferry and for the more adventurous, or those of you with a fear of flying, travelling to the island by sea on a ferry boat is a very viable option.

The vast majority of people who visit Ibiza arrive via plane and land at the island’s main airport. This is mainly because of the convenience of this method of transport from the UK and Germany, which account for the majority of the visitors to the island, but ignorance is also a factor in that people simply are not aware of the ferry services to and from the Balearic islands ferry island. Perhaps if people were aware of the regularity of the ferries from mainland Spain to Ibiza they would expand their trip to include a visit to the mainland, and also experience what is an important part in the history of the island of Ibiza.

The shortest ferry journey to Ibiza is from Valencia which is only 80 km away. There are sailings almost on a daily basis and the journey only takes three hours. Another option is to take the Barcelona to Ibiza crossing which, although of similar frequency, is a slightly longer journey at seven hours. If travelling from elsewhere in Europe, like the UK for example, you will need to take a ferry to one of the main Spanish ports and change there.

When arriving in Ibiza via ferry you will arrive in the port area which is very close proximity to the centre of Ibiza town. From here you can complete you journey via taxi or via bus if you are heading further out on the island.
